DAVAO PHOTODIARY: DAY 2

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

If you're a history buff or park lover or sort-of-adventure seeker you probably loved what we did on our day 1 in Davao here, but if you're a water baby then this post is for you!

Our day 2 in the "Crown Jewel" of Mindanao, Philippines started as early as 6 AM. We were up so early because we planned on riding a ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) ship from Sasa Wharf to reach Babak Wharf in Samal Island and we didn't want to miss the earliest boarding time.

On our way to Babak Wharf. This was our view on board. Babak Wharf was more or less just 15 minutes away from Sasa Wharf.

Touchdown Babak Wharf, Samal Island! :) From here, we rode a tricycle to our first destination which was the Monfort Bat Cave.

Monfort Cave is a Guinness World Records title holder for the largest colony of  Geoffroy's Rousette Fruit Bat (Rousettus amplexicaudatus).

I get chills just by looking at this photo. Eek!

The population of bats in Monfort Bat Cave was estimated in the year 2006 to be approximately 1.8 Million. Woah! I still can't believe there was a whopping 1.8 million bats there!

Next we went to was the Hagimit Water Falls, a group of several small waterfalls which cascade down to a natural catch basin.

The falls is located in an area which is covered by lush canopies of trees.

Visitors are usually allowed to go swimming in Hagimit. Sadly, due to the rain that poured the night before we went there, the water were dirty and the current was strong so we weren't permitted to swim. Snap photos: YES. Swim: NO. We still paid the entrance fee even though we weren't able to bath. But no worries, the entrance fee just costed Php 20.00.

Good thing we still have 3 beaches to visit in our itinerary for that day 'cause we were really craving for salt in our hair and sand on our toes!

Carol capturing the pristine waters of Kaputian Beach.

Brace yourself because there are more and you might be taken aback by how beautiful the beaches of Davao City are :) Davao beaches are equally amazing as Boracay beaches. The Philippines really have a lot of good places to visit!

No doubt it was named Kaputian Beach. Puti, coming from Kaputian, means white.

This is not anymore Kaputian Beach but Isla Reta. You really couldn't tell the difference because they both have white sands, blue skies and clear waters.

We went snorkelling.

The strong current kept washing us away from the school of fishes :(

A panoramic view (with my sister and I blocking the view) of Isla Reta taken using GoPro.

Last but definitely not the least in our list was Maxima Aqua Fun. If you're longing for some adrenaline rush then you better go here and try their gigantic slides which drop you straight into the ocean.

Would you dare step foot on this and slide your way down from 15 meters above sea level?

If you're wondering if I tried the slide... No, I did not! I wasn't scared okay. (defensive) I was just not in the mood. LOL! Kidding. The main reason was the slides were already closed when we got there :( The management does not allow slide operations after 5 PM for safety reasons.

That concludes this lengthy photodiary. Sorry for the photo-heavy post. I really can't choose just a few photos :) Hope you enjoyed scrolling down through the photos!
